Increasing the Solubility of SCI + Test Results
In this post, I am going to be talking about how to make your creations with SCI more stable.
I will detail the three methods and the surfactants that can be used to increase the solubility of SCI. Many of which you already have. I do have a post on making a simple formula with SCI and formulating with SCI that goes over my trials and tribulations that I recommend reading.
How Much Amphoteric Surfactant Should We Use?
This is going to be a quick post. I got this question asked over Instagram and wanted to make a dedicated post about it.
Using Sodium Lactate instead of Sodium Citrate
If you read my post on Salicylic acid, you would have read that sodium citrate can be used with salicylic acid to make it more water-soluble. I am curious if sodium lactate at 1% active concertation would work as well. So we are going to try that in this post.
Sodium lactate comes in a 60% stock solution. So we will need to calculate what 1% would be.
Making Bad Formulation Work
There have been many formulations that I have made that did not end well. In this post, I want to talk about if we can save these or what to do with them. As there are cases that you just cannot save the sample.
New Product: Cosmetic Chemistry Lab Notebook!
New product launch today! I am so excited for how it turned out.
Gel-Cream Foundation
In this blog post, I will share my gel-cream foundation formulation with you. I’ve wanted to make a formulation like this for a while now, and I finally decided to. As a disclaimer, I used the Making Cosmetics website to reference this formulation. (link) I have altered some aspects of the formulation, such as the oil phase and pigment concentration, to make it a medium to full-coverage foundation.
Precautions When Formulating
In this post, I am going to be talking about the not-so-fun part of the formulation. It is really important that I share this with you. This can also just be a general disclaimer for making any formulation. While generally, the ingredients we work with are not dangerous, we cannot be careless when we formulate. In the post, I am going to talk about the precautions you should take when formulating.
Argan Condition + Shine Hair Oil
In this post, I am going to be sharing with you a hair product formulation. If you have not noticed, I am sharing more hair care formulations. This was a formulation I made for my mom's hair.
Don't make these if you don't have the equipment
In this post, we are going to talk about the equipment you need to make specific products. It is one thing to have the ingredients, but another to have the right equipment. Method is such an important aspect of cosmetic formulation. Money other formulators forget that. I would put this post under safety; a must-read. The reason is that if you do not have the proper equipment, you could end up making something that either does not sensitize the skin or does not meet the claims you wanted.
Honey Conditioner
In this post, I’m going to be sharing my Honey Conditioner with you. This was a very fun project. I have not made an emulsion in quite a while. It was nice to make a hot processed emulsion. In addition, I was also able to use my homogenizer and that was a very fun experience. I will have a post on that that will go with this one. This product came up because my mom has been having issues with her hair. She got highlights and is really dried her hair and made it very frizzy so I wanted to make a product that was very conditioning that wouldn’t weigh down her hair and give her the volume and shine that she wants.
