Cosmetic Your Ways Blog
Basics of Energy, Heat, and Temperature
In this post, we will discuss the topics in the title. This post will be an introductory one, as we need to cover some material to understand these in more depth.
Making a Hyaluronic Acid Stock Solution
Stock solutions are a great way to save time when formulating. Stock solutions are premade concentrated solutions that you add to other formulations. By doing this you can dilute it to the concentration that you want. In the case of hyaluronic acid, it saves time waiting for the HA to disperse and hydrate overnight. Because it is a formulation its self, it will need a preservative.
Skin Anatomy
In this post, I am going to share a detailed introduction to skin anatomy. It is important for formulators to understand the basic skin anatomy. Not just for taking care of it but how it works, how actives affect the skin, and what can go wrong. Of course, we need to remember that we are making cosmetics and not drugs so we still need to be careful. We can not treat acne, we can reduce the appearance.
There is also a lot of misinformation on the skin that will be addressed in this post. This blog post was based on a free textbook. I encourage you to read it as well. Warning, there may be some images that some may find disturbing.
Summer Body Lotion with Aloe, Cucumber, and Watermelon
I have not made a lotion in a while and I need something for the warmer weather. So I wanted to make a summer lotion. I want this formula to be very lightweight hydrating, and moisturizing.
Making Your First Emulsion
In this post, I will be detailing how to make your first emulsion. I got this idea from someone asking me in the DMs. You know how you are, thank you so much. This will be geared towards beginners, but I encourage anyone to follow along. If you have not read my post about the basic equipment, read it here. (Link). I do not want this post to be overwhelming, so I will focus on basic techniques here. I would do way more if I were formulating for a business.
Can We Use a Single Surfactant?
In this post, we will discuss if we can use a single surfactant in a formulation. I got this question over an Instagram DM and thought that it would be a good post for the blog. So let's talk about it. I would encourage you to read about surfactants.
Chemical and Lab Safety
I have shared a series of videos that I needed for one of my chemistry lab courses. I thought i would share them as they are quite applicable.
Making a Facial Cleanser With a New-to-Me Surfactant
In this post, I am going to be making a facial cleanser with a new surfactant. If you are new to making facial cleansers. Check out my series on surfactants and facial cleansers.
Chemical Classes of Emulsifiers
Learn about the different chemical classes for surfactants. As a reminder, surfactants, emulsifiers, and solubilizers are all chemically the same.
