My Summer Break Plans 2024
Now that I have more time with summer break, I really want to make a plan on what I want to work on. If I do not, it really gets lost and then wonder where half of it went. I would also like your feedback, what do you want to see on the blog?
Update
I am officially done with the semester! I took a break over the weekend to collect myself. I appreciate your patience. I know it has been a couple of weeks since there has been a post. I will make up for those posts. This post will be part one, just an update on schooling. I am going to write another post about my summer plans. Part of this blog is sharing my experience of becoming a cosmetic chemist.
Formulation Basics: Aqueous Solutions
I wanted to make a series on formulation basics that focused on product forms rather than concepts. As a different way to present information. I have seen the Institute of Personal Care Science do this and thought that this would be helpful for new formulators. If you are not new to formulating, I still recommend reading, as I always add more information.
An Interesting Lession on Hydrating Gums (Free Post)
I had some weird things happen to some surfactant products and I wanted to share what I learned. As I know you might have the same issues. Let’s talk about it.

You Must Include These In Your Formulations!
When writing out your formulation, there are certain things you have to mention. Or else it can be not very clear for others reading it. This statement is coming from a contract formulator. I have been given many formulas, and I have sent many formulations out to manufactures.
What Even Are Cold-Process Emulsifiers?
Cold process emulsifiers are like the name suggests, emulsifiers that do not require heating. As we know, we cannot use a emulsifying wax as a solid, we need to melt it and then we can use it. Side note: some cold-process emulsifiers may be added to a heated phase depending if you have something in your oil-phase that needs to be melted. They may be also called polymeric emulsifiers. We are going to get into all of it in this post.
How do products get their scent?
This post will discuss how formulations get their scent without adding fragrance or essential oils. There are two ways that products get their scent. We will divide it by the initial smell and then the long-term smell. The scent is a factor in your formulation decisions. People will only want to use it if it smells good. So let's talk about it.
When do we need to use high shear?
This question was asked by one of you. Thank you for your questions. I really appreciate it as ur help guides the content that I make. Let’s get started.
