Squalane Gel Moisturizer

In this post, I am going to be sharing with you a simple gel moisturizer formula. That you can use as a base formula and customize to your liking. This post is going to be a free post.
Full disclosure: the Ellam Pazchai Light Green Water Soluble Powder, Guar Gum, and Squalane were sent to me by Essential Wholesale and Labs. I made this formulation to work with the ingredients.

Shea & Oat Body Butter

I think I mentioned this in a couple of previous posts, but my skin has been quite dry. I needed to make a different moisturizer for my skin. A rich, moisturizing, hydrating, and soothing formula. I also wanted to experiment and try some new things.

Highlighter Balm

Highlighter Balm

I created this formulation quite some time ago. I love it; I have been using it almost every day. The great thing about making your own cosmetics is that you can make them any tone you want. I will give a guide for choosing colors. For fair complexions, opt for pearl shades. Undertone is important as well. For cooler, lighter complexity, a pearl tone that leans pink will complement your skin tone. For warm, lighter complexions, a pearl that leans more yellow or golden will complement your skin tone.  For deeper complexions, you can go with bronzes and coppers. Still take note of your undertone. For a more natural look. If you want to make a mermaid glitter highlighter, go for it. In any color blend, avoid adding titanium dioxide, as it will make the highlighter appear ashy.

Experiment with Me: Lotion Bar

In this post, I want to share how to make lotion bars. Lotion bars are an anhydrous product. The name is a little misleading as it is not a lotion. Lotion normally implies that it will have both water and oil. Most products I have seen are just a combination of oils, butters, and waxes. I think a body butter bar or moisturizing body bar would be more fitting. I would love to hear your thoughts.

Common Melting Points Chart

I will share the common melting points of ingredients that you will see on the blog. This information is important when you are heating things to know their melting point. Just because something looks liquid does not mean that it is fully melted. When making this post, I was quite surprised on how many suppliers do not hair their melting point on their website or on the safety data sheet.

Gel-Cream Blush

Gel-Cream Blush

In this post, I will be sharing with you my gel-cream blush formulation. This formulation was adapted from Make Your Own Cosmetics Volume 1 Recipes for Makeup & Blush. I have been loving gel-cream formulations ever since I made a moisturizer with in this post. (link). Gel-creams are the best for these types of formulations. You can add an oil phase, while also having the benefit of the gelling agent to suspend your pigments. Gel-creams cannot have massive oil-phases, so mica would be preferred choice of pigment. If you were to use iron oxides or lake dyes, then you would need to make a dispersion. I have multiple posts on how to make them on your own.

Body Butter 3 Ways (With Three Different Formulas)

With everything cooling down, body butters are coming back. I am going to share how to make body butter three different ways. The three ways we will make it are anhydrous, anhydrous with an emulsifier, and a emulsion-based body butter. An anhydrous body butter only contains oils and butters. This can make them quite heavy. However, that might be something that you want. Since we will be in the cooler months thermal stability is less of an issue. Adding an emulsifying wax has the added advantage of being able to emulsify with the water on your skin, and turn it into a lotion. Emulsion-based body butter is the lightest option. This is due to the large water-phase being the external or continuous phase. A benefit of having the water and the oil phase is you have more options for actives. They all have their advantages, but I encourage you to make each one and see what you like.
